Self-Oscillating Mixer

Agilent Technologies products:

Function:
A self-oscillating mixer (SOM) translates an information-carrying signal from a higher (RF) frequency to a lower (IF) frequency, by mixing the RF signal with an internally generated signal that functions as the Local Oscillator (LO) signal, to create a signal at the difference of these two frequencies. In the simplest form, a SOM consists of an amplifier with a tuned feedback loop. The semiconductor in the amplifier acts as an unbalanced mixer; the feedback creates a signal at the "LO" frequency
