Function:
An IF amplifier provides amplification at a frequency that is lower than the receive (or transmit) frequency. For applications at millimeter wave or high microwave frequencies, these amplifiers will be equivalent to RF gain stages. For lower frequency applications, the frequency of operation will typically be between 50 MHz and 300 MHz. Gain stages can be used for these applications as well, assuming they are cost effective.
